Serpentine Pavilion 2017

London, England
Architect: Kéré Architecture

Winner of the Blueprint 2017 Award for Architecture, Francis Kéré, of Berlin-based practice Kéré Architecture, realised his dramatic temporary Serpentine Pavilion in the same year. Inspired by the tree that serves as a central meeting point for life in his home town of Gando in Burkina Faso, Francis Kéré sought to connect its visitors to nature — and each other. It was one of the most architecturally successful pavilion offerings of recent years. Read Cate St Hill’s interview with the architect, from Blueprint 353, here.
