The opulence of Moscow’s underground system is fabled, with its marbled interiors completed with crystal-glass chandeliers. It was opened in 1935 with one line and 13 stations. It now has 207 stations serving 217 miles of track. Our picture is perhaps not the most luxurious (though it gives you a flavour) as we got thoroughly lost down there — why would you give a station a different name depending which line you are on?
